Perils and Portents of Unfitness to Stand Trial: International and Comparative Perspectives

We invite you to this special two day event examining issues around unfitness to stand trial. Held at AUT University on October 9th & 10th 2017 The conference aims to foster an inter-disciplinary and collegial environment in which to discuss and debate a range of theoretical and practical concerns which the issue of unfitness to stand trial may give rise.
Unfitness to stand trial has become a significant and commonly litigated trial issue in many common law jurisdictions and involves troubling questions of policy, culture and legislation. The conference will benefit from the wisdom and insights of leading international scholars and clinicians familiar with the range of issues around unfitness to plead, through the presentation of keynote addresses and panel discussions. Participants include Professors Richard Bonnie,Ronnie Mackay,Gerry Ferguson, Warren Brookbanks and Ian Freckleton and clincians Dr Hinemoa Elder, Dr Susanna Every-Palmer, Dr Jeremy Skipworth and Mr Nigel Fairley.
